    Frequently Asked Questions

Have questions? We’re here to help.

    General

    • You will require a bricklaying licence in most states across Australia. This ensures that you comply with regulations and standards. For example, in NSW, you must have a licence before you do any residential building work in NSW, including bricklaying, that is valued at more than $5000 (incl GST) in labour and materials. Holding a bricklaying licence also ensures you meet the requirements of any regulating bodies which will avoid you incurring penalties or fines. You can also legally market your services and initiate contracts/tenders, both of which ensure you earn more than unlicensed bricklayers.

    • To become a licensed bricklayer, you need to meet the minimum requirements in your state. For example, in NSW, here are the steps to becoming a licensed bricklayer:

      1. Complete a Bricklaying/Blocklaying qualification with Qualify Me.
      2. Undertake construction induction training and obtain a White Card.
      3. Apply to Fair Trading NSW for your bricklaying licence.
