The building and construction RPL program is designed to meet the needs of builders and managers of small to medium-sized building businesses. The builder may also be the appropriately licensed person with responsibility under the relevant building licensing authority in the State or Territory.
The Building and Construction scope of work includes but is not limited to planning building or construction work, supervise site communication and administration processes for building and construction projects, apply legal requirements to building and construction projects, apply structural principles to residential and commercial constructions, prepare simple building sketches and drawings and minimise waste on the building and construction site.
At least 3 years relevant industry experience in a wide range of building construction work where the majority of the experience was obtained within 10 years of the date on which the application is made.

According to NSW Fair Trading, tradies who are wanting to apply for a Building (general building work) License must meet one of the two qualification criterias:
1) VET qualifications and units of competencies:
- CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
Plus any of the following:
a current carpentry or bricklaying contractor licence or qualified supervisor certificate, or an approved qualification that would allow the issue of such a licence:
- CPC50220 - Diploma of Building and Construction (Building) or
- CPC30220 - Certificate III in Carpentry or
- CPC30111 - Certificate III in Bricklaying/Blocklaying
Bachelor of Housing from an Australian university or a degree in civil engineering, structural engineering, architecture, housing, construction, construction management, construction project management, construction economics, applied science (building) or quantity surveying from an Australian university.
2) A degree in building, construction, construction management, construction project management, construction economics, applied science (building), or quantity surveying from an Australian university which requires the applicant to undertake the equivalent of four years’ full time study and a mandatory work placement.
A “degree” excludes an associate degree or an honorary degree.
