Everything you need to know about being a nail technician

Nail technician : Everything you need to know about becoming a nail technician in Australia

Nail technician :If you’re after a job that combines creative skills with an interest in beauty, then a career as a nail technician might be right for you! Here’s everything you need to know about becoming a nail technician and taking your nail art skills to the next level with the right RPL qualifications.

What is a nail technician?

Nail technicians are experts in keeping nails healthy and well-groomed. They specialise in the maintenance and decoration of fingernails and toenails, a service also known as manicures and pedicures. This involves tasks such as cleaning, exfoliating and removing dead skin, moisturising and lightly massaging hands and feet, tending to the cuticles, filing, and applying decorative finishes such as coloured polishes and decals.

Nail technicians often work at a salon or spa with other beauticians, but they can work as independent, mobile nail technicians and visit clients at home. Wherever they practice, nail technicians are responsible for upholding strict hygiene standards.

Do you need a licence to be a nail technician?

You can work as a nail technician without a formal nail technician qualification or a licence however, having certifications can help you advance your career prospects.
